The Maine Lighthouse Museum hosts the world’s largest collection of lighthouse artifacts along with great stories of light keepers, many of them strong Maine Women. Close by the Owl's Head Transportation Museum has everything on wheels and the history to go along with it, a favorite family stop.The Coastal Children's Museum is co-located on the waterfront in South Rockland with The Sail, Power, & Steam Museum at Sharp's Point South. A short drive or an easy walk from downtown, this area is also adjacent to the open green spaces and public boat
launching area at Snow Marine Park. Special events are planned throughout the summer months and include puppet shows, arts and crafts events, shore-side and low tide walks and exploration activities. The Coastal Children's Museum is a hands-on, interactive museum. In addition to puzzles, labyrinths, an art project room and Wood Workshop, exhibits include Learn About Maine Islands, an Under the Sea room with a tropical fish tank, a Touch Tank containing touchable marine animals from the Gulf of Maine, Sharpies' General Store and an Animal Morphing exhibit.
